The Children and Youth program is an all-inclusive program that stabilizes and empowers the children we serve through academics, positive emotional development, and social enrichment.
In preparation for the upcoming school year, Children and Youth program coordinator Micaela Herndon and summer intern Jasmine Tucker developed a new curriculum focusing on academic success.Set to launch in September and last through the 2014-2015 school year, the curriculum will focus on sharpening math and reading skills. Through weekly sessions, the goal is to ensure STAAR test readiness, as well as the formation of healthy relationships with those teaching the curriculum.
“Often times, we see kids are behind or lacking some of the skills they need in order to be academically successful,” Herndon said. “We want to help them see their full potential and hope that the skills they gain will transcend past academics.”
