At the beginning of this year, the New Friends New Life board determined that the scope of the organization, our services and direction would expand to meet the growing needs of the North Texas region and beyond.
Youth Resource Center
Part of this evolution included being selected by Governor Abbott to manage and launch a Youth Resource Center (YRC) for the trafficked girls in our community. We will open our doors this month to provide these girls a safe place to heal. Robbie Hamilton, who has worked with New Friends New Life for years, is stepping forward to serve as a Lead Survivor Advocate. A survivor herself, Robbie knows personally what many of these girls have endured and will be one of the first faces they see at the YRC. To find out how you can support the YRC through in-kind donations, please visit our registry.
Second Chance Jobs
Part of our programming is to restore dignity to survivors by providing them access to meaningful job opportunities where they can earn a living wage through the Second Chance Jobs program. Michelle McAdam, who has experience working in the Employment Department at the International Rescue Committee in Dallas, will take the reins of the initiative and expand the opportunities and life skills provided to survivors through partnerships with local businesses and nonprofits. Michelle will apply her hands-on knowledge to empower women to find meaningful jobs in our community where survivors can go on location and be equipped with important professional skills to enter the workforce.
New Friends New Life has been on an important journey bringing the issues around human trafficking to light and helping the survivors find restoration and healing. Through intense advocacy work and legislative support, the state of Texas has upped its commitment by establishing the first ever director of human trafficking prevention. Because of the generous donations provided by our community, NFNL stands ready to take this movement to the next level.
To help navigate this evolution, Katie Pedigo has returned to conduct a national search for a CEO who will lead us into this next era. Our mission to restore and empower the trafficked teen girls and sexually exploited women and their children has never been more important.
