This year’s event was a success with more than 900 people in attendance. Barbara Pierce Bush, CEO and co-founder of Global Health Corps, delivered a moving keynote address about the movement for health equity across the globe. Since 2009, Global Health Corps has placed 216 fellows from twelve countries to work with non-profit and government health organizations like Partners In Health and the Clinton Health Access Initiative in Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Rwanda, Zambia and the United States. Also during the luncheon, Pat Schenkel and Gerald Turner presented the “Protect-Her Awards” to Police Chief David Brown, Attorney General Greg Abbott and former First Lady Laura Bush.
