Playground Grapevine Screening
Irving Bible Church is hosting another screening of the documentary “Playground” to raise awareness about commerical sexual exploitation and trafficking in America. This event takes place Friday, January 14, 2011 at 7:00pm at The Palace Theatre in Grapevine. Tickets are no longer available to purchase online but can be bought at the theater the night of the event. Tickets that were purchased online can be picked up at Will Call.
This documentary focuses primarily on the plight of American citizens, particularly minors, trapped into the sex industry. “Playground” was directed by Libby Spears and the Executive Producers include George Clooney, Grant Heslov, and Steven Soderbergh.
Proceeds from this event will benefit New Friends New Life to continue the work of helping women leave the degredation of the sex industry. Some of the women served by NFNL share similar stories as those that will be hilighted in the documentary “Playground”. Some women were forced, coerced, or enticed by family members or strangers into the sex industry when they were under the age of 18. Other women, like the girls in the documentary, were raised in the foster care system after being removed from homes filled with abuse, neglect, or endangerment and later came to the sex industry as a method of financial survival. We are grateful for the partnership with Irving Bible Church as they seek to raise awareness of the issue of sexual exploitation in the community.
Irving Bible hosted a showing of the documentary in November 2010 and raised approximately $1900 for NFNL as well as the invaluable benefit of raising awareness of the issue.
