Women’s Program

Women's Program

Process of Getting Out

Women leaving sexually oriented businesses often make contact with New Friends New Life by calling the office (214-965-0935) or visiting a Wednesday night group. We are launching a new Resource Center to provide individualized training and support to you as you explore opportunities for a new life. This center is open 5 days a week and childcare if available on a reservation basis.

Wednesday night support includes dinner, life skills education and a Biblically based curriculum designed to assist women in making the emotional and spiritual transition from working in sexually oriented businesses to a healthier life. Visitors meet with a staff or volunteer on their first Wednesday night to receive more information about the program so we can get to know more about your needs. Further details about joining the program are given during this time as well.

Protégés commit to changing their lifestyles, living within a budget, remaining drug- and alcohol-free, and gaining the education or skills needed to acquire conventional employment. Protégés may receive financial assistance for a specified period of time to assist in their transition to conventional employment. Protégés work with a protégé advocate (case manager) to develop, and be held accountable to, an action plan to move toward a new life for themselves and their children. Through partnerships with other helping agencies and volunteer professionals, New Friends New Life also provides a wide variety of pro-bono services, such as job readiness training, educational opportunities, GED preparation classes, and budget counseling as well as personal therapeutic counseling.

Monthly analysis of each woman’s progress toward self-sufficiency is based on individualized educational/career plans. The average time for a protégé to reach self-sufficiency is 1-1/2 years, though many elect to remain in contact with their protégé advocate beyond that time. When women graduate from the protégé status, support services and leadership opportunities are made available to them.

Wednesday Nights

Our Wednesday night group is a safe place to begin forming healthy, trusted relationships. It is also a place to begin to work through the many difficult issues associated with a life in a sexually oriented business. This meeting is the centerpiece of NFNL in many respects. We have discovered this time is truly necessary for a woman and her child(ren) to have the support needed to overcome the odds of returning to a lifestyle that only causes further devastation.

Newcomers are first encouraged to attend Wednesday night group meeting to get a sense of NFNL’s program. Newcomers interested in joining the program will be asked to meet during dinner for a short interview. Please call 214-965-0935 or complete the form below if you are interested in joining us.

The group meets each Wednesday from 5:45 – 8:15 p.m. Following dinner, staff, volunteers and other professionals make a life skills presentation on practical topics such as employment issues, money management, healing from trauma, health or education. Members of the staff also present a Bible study component during the evening. Women relate their struggles, hurts, fears and successes; investigate Biblical truth; and come to understand significant spiritual truths about their lives. This class also focuses on how Jesus loved and interacted with people and how He is still reaching and loving us today.

Visiting women, who have attended Wednesday night and completed their interview with the program director, will receive further instructions regarding being admitted to the program and qualifying for assistance.

Counseling

Individual, group, and familial counseling helps the women process through their past and present experiences and equips them with the skills and confidence to move forward and accomplish their personal goals. We also believe counseling is an opportunity to seek healing from the experiences in the industry as well as from traumatic childhood and adult experiences.

Protégé Leadership Program

We often find that protégés (program participants) ask, “How can I give back?”.  That question has far reaching implications.  It suggests that the one asking is genuinely appreciative of the opportunities provided them by the NFNL ministry.  Such appreciation is more than mere words and is manifested in action –the women want to be of service.  In other words, they desire to comfort others with the same comfort they have received.  Typically, protégés who are ready to “give back” have maintained their own financial independence, are nurturing their spiritual growth, and have stable employment and are considered leaders.

Protégé leadership opportunities include traveling in the metroplex to share their experiences with various audiences. Protégé leaders have also traveled to different areas of the state or country with a staff mentor to facilitate workshops,  present at focus groups, or participate in panel discussions at conferences.
