The Process
Newcomers are first encouraged to attend Wednesday night in order to get a sense of NFNL’s program. There is a sign in for all women, visitors, volunteers, and children. Newcomers interested in joining the program will be asked to meet with the Program Director, Lalla Shackelford, during dinner for a short interview. Please call 214 -965-0935 or complete the form below if you are interesting in joining us.
The group meets each Wednesday from 5:45 – 8:15 p.m. During the first hour, dinner is served and the women share the happenings of the week with each other, volunteers, and staff. This meeting is the centerpiece of NFNL in many respects. This time together is mandatory, as we have discovered this time is truly necessary for a woman and her children to have the support needed to overcome the odds of returning to a lifestyle that only causes further devastation. Protégés are asked to arrange their schedule in such a way to accommodate this important evening. Exceptions may be granted for work, training or educational schedules.
On Wednesdays during the dinner Protégés have the opportunity to submit prayer requests that are then sent to group of people via email who are committed to praying for our women and families each week. This is also the time protégés receive their weekly subsidy or other financial assistance. Announcements important to group members as well as administering random drug testing are also done during this hour.
At 6:40 p.m. the group is dismissed to Life Skills where staff, volunteers and other professionals are scheduled to make a presentation on practical topics such as employment issues, money management, health or education. Following Life Skills, from 7:30 – 8:15, is the Bible Study component of the evening. This class is lead by members of our staff. Their professional training, life experience and ministry talents are varied but not their focus and passion – to offer encouragement, love and Biblical truth to each woman that graces our doors.
The group is a safe place to begin forming healthy, trusted relationships. It is also a place to begin to work through the many difficult issues associated with working in sexually oriented businesses. Women relate their struggles, hurts, fears and successes, investigate Biblical truth and come to understand significant spiritual truths about their lives. This class also focuses on how Jesus loved and interacted with the people of that day and how he is still reaching and loving us today.
Women, who have visited Wednesday night and have completed their interview with the Program Director will receive further instructions regarding being admitted to the program and qualifying for assistance.
